Here is the story...

We got rid of the cribs because they were climbing out of them and my DH did not want to pay for crib tents.

So we moved them to play pins. That lasted about 3 months and then they started turning them upside down and in front of the door so I could not get in. Also shacking them like crazy all the time...breaking one in the process.

Now we are on mattresses on the floor.

Every time I get them out of their rooms from "quiet time" at least two of them have a new "mark" on them, either bite mark or scratches. So my kids constantly look all beat up!

Half the time they don't even take an afternoon nap.

Well today my father in law offered to buy us pea pods for them to sleep in, to put in their rooms.

My concern is... They have had "freedom" for over 6 months now, so how would they react to being "caged".

They are smart girls, could they figure out how to un-zip them or just destroy them within a mater of weeks?

Do I want him to spend his money on something that may not work, but it may also give me some peace when they are in their room and not worrying all the time who is getting hurt?

Or do I ask him to spend the money on something else that we need, like clothes for the winter or fixing the plumbing problems we are having?

Or I could ask for the pack n play crib tents, but the company NEVER has them. But then again, how long will it take to destroy those, even if they do have a warranty, how many times am I going to have to order new ones?

The pea pods would be nice for travel, but we don't do that often, so would that even be worth it?

I am just pretty much writing out my thoughts and hoping to get some advice... I have not even discussed it with DH yet!

They are 2 by the way.

Do you still have your original cribs? If so could FIL buy the tents now and you could go back to that?

It sounds like you don't have anything to loose with the pea pods though - I would go for the larger ones that are 60 inches (I think) just to give them space more equivalent to the mattresses. To me they are pretty sturdy but my boys aren't quite to destructo phase - and dd stayed in her toddler bed (only now at 6 is she wandering the halls)

I *think* the pnp tents have recently been recalled - and it sounds like you need a more immediate solution.

Yeah, I wish we had kept the cribs, but one was becoming very unsafe from all the shaking it had and it was 30 years old, so we tossed it and then the other one we gave to my sister for her new baby. And the third one is being used by my 6 month old! So unfortunately, we can not go back to cribs.

If I get the pea pods, I would definitely get the larger ones, however they are more expensive and I think my FIL said he would pay $60 for each and the large ones are $80. So I guess that kind of gives me an answer! (I did some research after posting.)

Bet you are kicking your DH for not getting the crib tents We are still in cribs, with tents...but are thinking about going to beds in Dec. Now that you have gone this long I would probably just keep at it, no point in taking steps backwards. Mine always have marks that they get throughout their day, I don't think they are going to be mark free for a while. Good luck.

Yeah, I wish we had gotten them! Too late now. I think you are right, we might as well not take a step backwards!

You could get the peapods...but the trouble is you really need to separate for naps.

Ours would not nap if we had them together. The peapods are very portable, put them in any available room...bathroom, closet, master bedroom...whatever. Just SEPARATE.

Once nap is done just haul them somewhere you can store them for the remaining 22 hrs of the day.

If you are really feeling desperate and feeling the kids are unsafe, you could try the Pea Pod Plus beds and see if it works.

If it's not a good solution for you, I'm sure you could re-sell the Pea Pods.

I think it is too late for the pea pods. Once they stop napping and start hurting each other, it's time to eliminate naps or stay in the room until they've fallen asleep.

You may want to consider a video camera monitor for their room. You can get one easily under $200 and then focus on intervening when they are misbehaving in their room. We just put my 2 year 3 month olds in toddler beds and with the camera system it has been fairly painless. No one gets out of bed and there is very little horseplay, lots of giggles and chatter but they do eventually settle and sleep without anyone getting hurt.
Best of luck,
Nic
